Con questo andirivieni l’ultima missione Shuttle, che avrebbe dovuto partire il 26 febbraio, sarà ritardata di un giorno, con il decollo ora previsto per il 27 febbraio.
Il primo marzo è previsto l’attracco della navetta e il 9 marzo è previsto il distacco per il rientro.
Anche l’agenzia russa Roscosmos sta verificando le proprie tempistiche per evitare di congestionare ulteriormente la navigazione intorno all’avamposto orbitale.
Dal canto suo ESA era pronta per il lancio di dicembre, ma Arianespace ha dato la precedenza ai propri contratti commerciali, soprattutto a causa della più complessa preparazione del lancio di ATV.
Dato che la capsula ESA utilizza un upper-stage a propellenti criogenici, il tempo di preparazione del vettore Ariane 5 è più lungo rispetto ai normali satelliti commerciali e si attesta sulle otto settimane.
In quest’ottica Arianespace ha preferito completare le missioni dei propri clienti e lasciare l’inizio 2011 per l’agenzia spaziale europea.
Intanto l’ESA ha fatto rientrare i propri tecnici dato che ora si tratta di aspettare il proprio turno…
